LiftMaster Opener Logic Board Repair: The Hollywood Owner’s Guide

LiftMaster opener logic board repair in Hollywood typically runs $120-$320 installed, and most jobs are completed same-day because we carry the common boards on the truck. If you’re standing in the garage pressing the wall button and hearing a faint click but no motor engagement, or the remote stopped working while the wall button still functions, the logic board is the part that’s failed. It’s the circuit board inside the motor housing that receives signals from remotes, wall buttons, and safety sensors, then tells the motor what to do. When it stops reading those inputs, the opener becomes a paperweight on the ceiling.

We service LiftMaster openers throughout Hollywood, from the neighborhoods east of US-1 near Young Circle to the newer subdivisions west of I-95 in Emerald Hills and Hollywood Hills. Marcus Deller and the crew keep OEM LiftMaster boards for the common series stocked in the van, plus quality aftermarket equivalents for older models where the OEM part is discontinued. You’ll get a written price and scope before anything gets unbolted, per Clause 1 of The Haven Standard.

Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To

LiftMaster has used different logic board form factors across its opener lines, and the board from a 2024 model will not seat into a housing built in 2012. The compatibility breaks down across four primary families:

  • Security+ 2.0 series (models 8160, 8355, 8360, 8550, 8587): These use a compact board with a yellow learn button. They’re the most common in Hollywood homes built or renovated since 2015. The board is model-specific between AC and DC motor versions, so an 8550 board won’t run an 8360.
  • Security+ 315 MHz series (models 3280, 3850, 2500, 3800): Larger board with a purple or red/orange learn button. OEM boards for these are getting harder to source, which is where a quality aftermarket board becomes the honest recommendation.
  • Smart openers with Wi-Fi/MyQ (models 8500W, 87504, 87802): The logic board here integrates the MyQ radio. If you’re changing the board, the MyQ programming has to be re-synced, and that’s a step DIY installs routinely miss.
  • Commercial light-duty (models T, T501, LGO, HCT): These boards run on different logic entirely and need to be matched by the exact model number printed on the housing, not by visual match.

The reliable way to identify your board is the model number on the metal housing or the label on the board itself. LiftMaster stamps the board with both a part number (like 41A5273-1) and a revision code. The revision matters: two boards with the same part number but different revisions can have different wiring pinouts. If you open the housing and read us the part number, we’ll tell you before we arrive whether we have it on the truck.

Servo Garage Doors Hollywood is an independent service provider. We service all eight major brands, LiftMaster included, but we’re not affiliated with LiftMaster, and we stock both OEM and tested aftermarket boards. The aftermarket route saves real money on 315 MHz-era openers, sometimes $80-$120, and we’ll show you the spec sheet difference before you decide.

Signs Your LiftMaster Opener Logic Board Is Failing

Signs Your LiftMaster Opener Logic Board Is Failing
  • Wall button works, remotes don’t. The receiver module on the logic board is the usual failure point. The wall button runs on a hardwired circuit, so it still triggers the motor, but the radio receiver on the board has stopped reading remote signals.
  • Remote works, wall button doesn’t. Less common, but it points to the terminal block on the board where the wall control wires land. Corrosion from South Florida humidity at that terminal strip is a regular failure we see in Hollywood garages that aren’t climate controlled.
  • Opener clicks but doesn’t run. The relay on the board is closing, but the board isn’t sending the run signal down to the motor circuit. This is very often misdiagnosed as a bad capacitor or a bad motor. We test the relay on the board first because it’s a $120-$200 fix, not a $300+ one.
  • Safety sensors stopped reversing the door, or the door reverses for no reason. The logic board interprets the sensor input. A failing board can read a clean sensor pair as obstructed, or ignore a real obstruction. On the lift side of the board, this matters for safety more than convenience.
  • Opener runs on its own or runs erratically. The board is receiving ghost inputs, often from a failing capacitor on the board or moisture intrusion. This is the one that gets us called at 2 a.m. because the door is opening itself.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

LiftMaster logic board replacement in Hollywood runs $120-$320 installed, depending on opener model and whether you choose an OEM or aftermarket board. The price is line-itemed in the written quote before work starts: board cost, labor, and any programming or sync work. You’ll see the failed board photographed, per Clause 4, and the replacement board photographed before it goes in.

What drives the range:

  • Board cost: OEM Security+ 2.0 boards are $70-$150. Aftermarket equivalents for older 315 MHz units run $50-$90. Smart opener boards with integrated MyQ are on the higher end.
  • Labor: Most swaps are 45-75 minutes. A board on an opener with existing wiring in good shape is faster than one where we’re also repairing corroded terminals or re-running a limit-switch wire.
  • Programming: Remotes, keypad, MyQ, and travel limits all have to be re-taught to the new PCB. That’s included, not an add-on line item.

Every logic board swap in Hollywood comes with a documented photo record of the removed board, the installed board, and the completed opener running through a full cycle test. The work is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

FAQs

How long should a LiftMaster logic board last? In Hollywood’s heat and humidity, expect 8-12 years from a logic board; openers in non-climate-controlled garages east of Federal Highway tend to fail toward the 8-year end of that range because salt air accelerates corrosion on the board’s solder joints and connectors. A board in a garage that stays under 90°F and dry can run 12-14 years, but replacing an 8-year-old board on an opener that’s 12 years old is often the signal to compare board replacement against a new opener install. We’ll quote both honestly.

Can the logic board be repaired instead of replaced? Usually not worth it. Component-level repair on a board with corroded traces or a burned relay means soldering, which is unreliable on boards with conformal coating and doesn’t address age on the rest of the components. We’ll check the board for a cold solder joint or a visible capacitor bulge, but when the board is truly failed, replacement is the honest fix.

How long does the swap take? A typical logic board replacement takes 45-75 minutes in a Hollywood garage, including re-syncing remotes, keypad, travel limits, and testing the door through multiple full cycles. If the wiring terminals are corroded or the opener needs a hard reset afterward, add a half hour, and we’ll tell you before starting.

Do you stock LiftMaster logic boards on the truck? We carry OEM boards for the Security+ 2.0 series and common aftermarket boards for 315 MHz series, which covers roughly 80% of LiftMaster calls in Hollywood. If your model needs a board we don’t have on the van, it’s usually a next-day order and there’s no second trip charge. Call (754) 465-7645 and we’ll check your model over the phone.
