A 3-inch roller in a door built for 2-inch rollers will bind at the top of the radius. • Door shakes or shimmies as it travels. A worn roller allows the door to shift side to side inside the track. You’ll see it most clearly from inside the garage: the door panel rocks a little left and right as it passes the halfway point.
• Uneven gaps at the bottom of the door. When one roller is flattened, that corner drops a half-inch or so lower than the rest of the door. This is easiest to spot when the door is closed and you look at the floor seal from the outside, or when the door is half open and you sight along the bottom edge from inside.
• Door hesitates or jerks mid-travel. The seized bearing is fighting the opener. A Genie opener will push through it, but the wear transfers to the opener’s travel module, and that’s a much bigger repair. Catching the roller early means you don’t buy an opener repair later.
• Visible wear on the track channel itself. Rust-colored dust or fine metal shavings on the horizontal tracks means the roller is grinding into the track steel. That dust is the roller disintegrating.
